Rancho Bernardo's Holiday Season Hinges on Two Wednesdays in December

November 5, 2026

Rancho Bernardo's busiest holiday stretch in 2026 runs from Wednesday, December 9, to Monday, December 21. That window holds almost every date the neighborhood's two hilltop venues have set. Bernardo Winery has rebuilt its Holiday Nights schedule around Wednesday-to-Sunday runs. Rancho Bernardo Inn has put its Jingle & Mingle evening on the Wednesday when the winery's second run opens. Over the 13 days in that window there are ten evenings of lights, six Santa breakfasts, a library craft hour and one night when both venues are hosting at once.

Some parts of the season start earlier and finish later. The Inn's gingerbread display opens the day after Thanksgiving and stays up into January. Most of what fills a family calendar, though, falls inside those two weeks. The dates below run in order.

The Inn Opens the Season on Friday, November 27

The first fixed date belongs to Rancho Bernardo Inn at 17550 Bernardo Oaks Drive. Three of its holiday offerings open within a few days of each other and stay open well past the December rush:

  • Gingerbread Village: A Candyland Christmas is in the Inn's Music Room from November 27, 2026, through January 4, 2027. San Diego Tourism's event listing says admission is free.
  • Toys for Tots at the Inn collects donations at the Inn's reception from November 27 through December 21. Anyone who brings an unwrapped toy worth $20 or more gets a 10% voucher at Veranda and $30 off a spa service.
  • Christmas at The Inn Cocktail Bar is open at the Veranda Bar from December 1 through January 5, serving holiday cocktails and seasonal food à la carte.

Last year's gingerbread theme was "The Nutcracker: Clara's Land of Sweets." It ran from November 28 to January 5, according to San Diego Tourism's 2025 hotel holiday roundup. The 2026 Candyland display starts and ends one day earlier. The 2025 toy drive ran November 28 through December 17. This year's drive starts one day earlier and runs four days longer, ending December 21.

The extra four days matter. In 2025 the drive closed several days before the winery's last Santa breakfast. In 2026 the toy drive ends on December 21, the same morning as the winery's final Santa breakfast, so the Inn's donation window now lasts as long as the rest of the season.

Wednesday, December 9: The Winery Opens Two Days Earlier

Bernardo Winery is at 13330 Paseo del Verano Norte. Its 2026 Holiday Nights page lists two runs, December 9 through 13 and December 16 through 20, from 5 to 9 p.m. each night. The page promises lights, carolers, shops and food trucks.

This year's changes are to the calendar. In 2025, the San Diego Union-Tribune reported Holiday Nights running December 11 through 14 and December 17 through 21. The first 2025 run began on a Thursday. Both 2026 runs begin on a Wednesday.

Bernardo Winery event 2025 schedule 2026 schedule Change
Holiday Nights, first run Dec. 11–14, Thursday to Sunday Dec. 9–13, Wednesday to Sunday Opens two days earlier, adds one night
Holiday Nights, second run Dec. 17–21, Wednesday to Sunday Dec. 16–20, Wednesday to Sunday Shifts one day earlier
Holiday Nights, total evenings 9 10 One more evening
Breakfast with Santa Dec. 13, 14 and 17–21 Dec. 11–13 and 19–21 Seven mornings become six

Holiday Nights still runs Wednesday through Sunday. Breakfast with Santa has moved to a different pattern. The winery's Breakfast with Santa page lists two three-morning blocks, December 11 through 13 and December 19 through 21, from 9 a.m. to noon. Tickets are $80 for adults, $45 for children ages 2 to 12, and free for children under 2. Seating is limited, and tickets are sold online in advance only. The breakfast takes place in a semi-covered outdoor area at the winery. It includes a hot breakfast, face painting, balloon sculptures, cookie and ornament making, up-close visits with animals, and a one-on-one meeting with Santa.

The 2026 breakfast mornings land on the two weekends, Friday through Sunday in the first week and Saturday through Monday in the second. December 21, the last morning, is a Monday, the first full week of most school winter breaks. Nothing runs on the midweek mornings in between. In 2025, five breakfasts ran back to back from Wednesday the 17th through Sunday the 21st.

Wednesday, December 16: The One Night Both Venues Are Hosting

Rancho Bernardo Inn's Jingle & Mingle is on Wednesday, December 16, from 5 to 8 p.m. It's the same evening the winery opens its second Holiday Nights run.

The Inn's page lists a full program for those three hours:

  1. A fire truck makes an entrance, and Santa greets families on the Granada Lawn.
  2. Live music plays on the Granada Lawn and the Veranda.
  3. The hot chocolate bar and popcorn are free, and there's an adult version of the hot chocolate.
  4. A holiday trunk show sets up on the Promenade, with chair massages from the Spa nearby.
  5. Children can watch holiday movies.
  6. Café G stays open until 8 p.m., and the Pro Shop is open for holiday shopping.

The overlap isn't new. In 2025 the Inn held "Jingle & Mingle with Santa" on Wednesday, December 17, according to San Diego Tourism. That was also the first night of the winery's second 2025 run. Both venues moved back one day for 2026 and still share the same Wednesday.

On paper, one family can do both. Jingle & Mingle ends at 8 p.m., and Holiday Nights runs until 9 p.m., an hour later. The second run also continues Thursday through Sunday, so the winery's lights are available on four more evenings that week. The only way to miss one of them is to want both on the 16th.

Thursday, December 10: An Hour at the Library Before the Lights

The other date between the two Wednesdays is at the Rancho Bernardo Library. Its December holiday craft hour is Thursday, December 10, from 4 to 5 p.m. It's for all ages, and no registration is required. That evening is the second night of the winery's first run, which opens at 5 p.m. On paper, the craft table finishes just as the lights come on.

The library also has an earlier date. A Thanksgiving craft celebration is set for Thursday, November 19, from 4 to 5 p.m., also for all ages with no registration. That's one week after this post goes up and eight days before the Inn's gingerbread display opens.

After December 21: What Lasts Into January

Several things end on Monday, December 21. The winery holds its last Breakfast with Santa that morning, and the Inn's Toys for Tots drive closes that day. Holiday Nights has its last evening the night before, Sunday, December 20.

After that, the season shrinks to two places at the Inn. Gingerbread Village: A Candyland Christmas stays in the Music Room through January 4, 2027. Christmas at The Inn Cocktail Bar serves holiday cocktails at the Veranda Bar through January 5. For anyone with relatives visiting after Christmas, those are the two holiday stops in Rancho Bernardo still open during the week between the holidays.
